How it works
Why pip valueisn't fixed.
A pip is a fixed price move, but its dollar value changes with the pair, the lot size, and - for some pairs - the exchange rate.
For pairs quoted against the US dollar (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD, NZD/USD), one pip on a standard lot is always worth exactly $10 - the exchange rate doesn't change the answer.
For pairs where the dollar is the base currency (USD/JPY, USD/CAD, USD/CHF), pip value moves with the rate - this calculator uses a representative rate you can update to the live one.
Gold (XAU/USD) is treated as a $0.01 price move on a 100oz lot, the convention most brokers use.
